New Tecumseth hosts public input sessions regarding the ward boundary review
NEW TECUMSETH, ON – New Tecumseth’s 2017 ward boundary review continues and you’re invited to learn more and to share your input.
At Monday’s meeting (June 12), Council selected one of four new ward boundary options. Public input sessions will be held in each of the Town’s communities – Alliston, Beeton and Tottenham – and residents are encouraged to attend and share your input on the proposed new ward boundaries for New Tecumseth.
Council directed that the review be based on four major principles as utilized by other municipalities and court rulings including:
- Representation by population
- Representation of communities of interest and neighbourhoods
- Recognition of distinct geographic and infrastructure elements; and,
- Recognition of population trends and future population growth.
The proposed revised ward boundary map for New Tecumseth is based on Option 1 as selected by Council. Information is available on the Town’s website at www.newtecumseth.ca
Everyone is invited to join Town of New Tecumseth staff at any of the following informal public input sessions to provide their comments:
Tues., June 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Council Chambers, Town Administration Centre, 10 Wellington St. E., Alliston
Wed., June 28 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Beeton Memorial Arena, 2nd floor, 22 Second Street, Beeton
Thurs., June 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 Tottenham Community & Fitness Centre, 139 Queen St. N., Tottenham
Those in attendance will be invited to submit their comments to the Town. If you are unable to attend any of the above public input sessions, you can still provide your comments with regard to the 2017 ward boundary review by July 12, 2017. Comments can also be submitted through email to , or in writing to the Clerk/Director of Administration Services, Cindy Maher at 10 Wellington St. E., Alliston, ON L9R 1A1. For questions, please call 705-435-3900 ext. 1226.
Staff will then report back to Council and anticipate doing so in late summer/early fall. If you would like to be notified of the exact date that the 2017 ward boundary review will be before Council again, please email and you will be notified once that date is finalized.
The final step in the ward boundary review process is for Council to pass a by-law to divide or re-divide the municipality into wards or to dissolve existing wards. Any Ontario Municipal Board appeal process launched with regard to the by-law must be completed prior to December 31, 2017 in order for the new ward boundaries to be in place for the 2018 Municipal Elections.
