Births

Birth certificates are ordered from the Provincial Office of the Registrar General. New parents should wait until they have received confirmation that registration has been completed before ordering a birth certificate. An application form may be picked up at the Town office or can be completed online from the Ministry of Government Services website.

Birth registrations can be applied for online by going to the Service Ontario website.

Weddings:

New Tecumseth has many indoor spaces available for weddings and receptions. Our facilities offer rooms that can accommodate seating from 45 to 1,300 persons. From small weddings to large gatherings and celebrations, each of the fully accessible locations have air-conditioning, kitchen, bar, stage, set-up and take-down services.

Civil Marriage Services:

The office of the Clerk will provide Civil Marriage Services (fee of $250.00)

Ceremonies will be conducted in the Council Chambers of the Town of New Tecumseth Administration after 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays. Arrangements for ceremonies outside Town Hall and outside of regular hours can be arranged with the Clerk (fee $350.00).

Marriage Licensing

Marriage licenses may be purchased at the New Tecumseth Administration Centre. An application form may be picked up in advance and must be signed by both individuals, however it may be brought back by only one applicant if that is most convenient. Alternatively, both applicants may attend the office during the specified hours to fill out the application form. It is suggested that you call ahead for an appointment.

You may apply for a marriage certificate online by going to Office of the Registrar General’s web site.

NEW TECUMSETH PROCEDURES

Licence Fee: $120.00 cash, Debit,  Visa or MasterCard. We do not accept cheques.
Hours: A licence can be issued between 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Expiry Date: A marriage licence is valid for use anywhere in Ontario for a period of three (3) months from the date of issue.
Identification: We are required to examine two original identification documents for both individuals:1) birth certificate (along with any change of name certificates), or baptismal certificate, or record of immigrant landing, or Canadian citizenship card, along with;2) photo identification.
Divorces: If you are divorced, we require the original or a court certified copy of the CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE (or DECREE ABSOLUTE). The Divorce Judgement is not acceptable. A certified copy may be obtained from the court which granted the divorce. If you were divorced outside of Canada, you must obtain authorization from Service Ontario. Last Name: It is important to use your legal surname.
Address: If your mailing address is a P.O. Box, we require your actual street address. If you have a Rural Route Number (RR #), please provide your 911 address.
Place of Marriage: Please state the municipal name where the marriage will take place (city/town/township).
Marriage: It is your responsibility to arrange the marriage ceremony of your choice.
Marriage Ceremony: Civil Marriages are performed in the Council Chambers of the Town of New Tecumseth Administration Centre, 10 Wellington Street East, Alliston on Fridays between 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a cost of $250.   Services are also available outside of these hours and/or the Town Offices. The cost for this service is $350. Bookings should be made at least one week in advance.
